Our Process
Designing and Installing Your Underground Sprinkler System
Every property is unique, so we start by walking yours, assessing things like water pressure, lawn and planting areas, sunny spots, shady hideaways, and the watering needs for different parts of the property.
From design and installation to smart controller programming and cleanup, Phoenix handles the entire process so your system is ready to use and easy to forget.
1. Property Assessment & System Design
We start with a quick 30 minute on-site consultation and review to understand what your irrigation system needs to do. Assessing:
- Water pressure and available flow
- Lawn and planting areas
- Sun and shade spots
- Yard slope
- Private utilities and other site conditions
What we learn during the assessment helps us determine the right watering zones, sprinkler heads, and coverage for each part of the property and their microclimates.
2. Prepare & Install
Once the system design is approved, Phoenix gets everything in place for installation, including public utility marking, required permitting, and custom sprinkler heads.
BEFORE INSTALLATION
- Public utility markings coordinated
- Required permitting handled
- Material and equipment prepared
BUILT INTO YOUR SYSTEM
- Main Waterline connection
- Durable Schedule 40 PVC mainline
- Premium sprinkler heads selected for proper coverage
- Organized valves and manifolds
- Rachio 3 Smart Irrigation Controller
*Meter tap connection is required! Your system cannot be ran off of your home’s hose line.
3. Test, Program, and Restore
After everything is in the ground, we test the system thoroughly, making final adjustments if necessary, and program your smart controller based on the needs of your property. The system automatically adjusts it’s watering around weather conditions and seasonal changes, so you don’t have to.
With the system operating properly, we carefully restore the areas distrubed during installation and leave the property clean, put back together, and ready to thrive.
Want to give your lawn a head start?
Phoenix offers a premium post-installation lawn recovery option to help your lawn flourish faster with the help of a plugless Aera-vator and an infusion of Aquamax Seed with fungicide and fertilizer.
4. Ongoing Support & Seasonal Service
Your system will require two seasonal services each year:
- Spring Startup (April)
- Winterization (November)
Phoenix handles both to ensure your system is operating at its best during season after season.
Your first year of seasonal service is included with your installation! After that, each service is simply invoiced after the work is completed.
If your system ever needs an adjustment or the rare repair between seasonal visits, Phoenix remains available and responsive at a moments notice to help keep your system operating the way it was designed.

Owner-led from consultation to seasonal service
Phoenix Landscape Irrigation is owner-operated, led by a Roanoke native who’s personally involved in every installation with the rest of the crew. From initial assessment through final testing, cleanup, and seasonal service.
That also means you’re not passed between a salesperson, installer, and service department. If you have a question about your system, you speak directly with the person responsible for the work.
